Types of Lash Bands: Clear, Cotton, Pre-Glued, and Magnetic

It takes more than aesthetics to find the perfect set of false lashes. The lashes must look terrific, but they should also feel comfortable (ideally, so comfortable that you can forget they're on!) and stay in place, especially if you're buying reusable lashes.

The type of band that each pair of faux lashes is made of is one of the key features you should consider when shopping for faux lashes since this will directly affect both the fit and appearance of the product. The band should be flexible but not so much that they flop around and don't hold their shape, keeping your eyelids comfortable. Depending on the occasion, your best type of lash band might change, such as between daytime makeup and special occasions makeup.

We've put together a guide to the four most common lash bands:

Cotton Lash Bands

The natural hypoallergenic properties of cotton make cotton lash bands ideal for people with sensitive skin and allergies. Additionally, cotton is extremely comfortable and soft. If they're too long, cotton bands, for example, won't dig into your eyelid.

Better yet, cotton's natural texture allows glue to stick well, making these lashes more likely to remain in place. It will look like you're wearing eyeliner because the cotton itself is dyed black. Ideal for people who want to replace eyeliner and mascara in one step!

If cotton lash bands sound tempting, you will find them on all of our Faux Mink lashes.

Clear lash bands

Synthetic lash bands are invisible from a short distance since they are see-through and invisible. This is why they're ideal for creating a natural look since their seamless blend will allow your natural lashes to blend seamlessly with those of the false ones. Furthermore, you don't look like you're wearing eyeliner with them.Furthermore, they are perfect for beginners. Because no one will notice if your lash line doesn't match up with the band.

Sounds good, doesn't it? All of our Super Naturel lashes use clear bands.

Magnetic lash bands

Magnetic lash bands don't require any adhesive, unlike other lash band types. You hold them around your natural lashes with tiny magnets, which are distributed along their length, making them different from regular lash extensions.

The double strips used in magnetic lashes result in a voluminous appearance. But they are also twice as heavy as single strips. Magnetized eyelashes lay directly on your delicate lashes, unlike glue-on eyelashes which sit on your eyelids. This can lead to eyelash loss. It's no fun to have bald eyes!

Magnetic lash bands are also reported to be more difficult to apply than conventional ones. We’d say only try magnetic if a glue allergy prevents you from wearing regular false lashes, and even then don’t wear them regularly.

Pre-Glued lash bands

Because pre-glued lashes come with glue already applied, they are also called self-adhesive lashes. Some people find these types of lash bands convenient as they can peel off the backing and stick them on. You should also know that the bands (and the actual lashes) aren't made for reusing. Because of this, they're likely of poor quality and will be uncomfortable.

When you throw away plastic packaging with every pair of pre-glued lashes, that's not great from a sustainability perspective. Furthermore, if you usually wear false lashes regularly, reusable ones would be a better choice, since they are cheaper per use.

Which is the best lash band type?

Both clear and cotton bands are better than pre-glued lashes in terms of the sustainability and price-per-wear, and also beat out magnetic lash bands from a protect-your-real-lashes perspective. But whether clear or cotton is best for you depends on whether you want ‘eyeliner’ to come included with your faux eyelashes or not.
